William Courtney, adjunct senior fellow at Rand Corporation and former U.S. ambassador to Georgia and Kazakhstan, says Russia seems to be starting with a "shock and awe" attack against Ukraine, and would not want to go into "urban combat" because casualties will be quite high. officials said intelligence shows the opposite, with 7,000 more Russian soldiers arriving on the Ukrainian border. The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory is a very high energy gamma-ray detector located in Mexico. In late 2018, the HAWC collaboration completed a major upgrade consisting of the addition of a sparse outrigger array of 345 small water Cherenkov detectors (WCDs) surrounding the 300 WCDs of the main array and extending the instrumented area by a factor of 4. It provides an improved reconstruction of the showers whose core and footprint are not well contained in the array and increases the effective area in the range of a few TeV to beyond 100 TeV. This improvement in sensitivity will help to have a better understanding of the Galactic sources that accelerate particles up to the knee of the cosmic ray spectrum. In this contribution, we will show the current status, the performance, and the first results from the HAWC outrigger array. The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) is a very-high-energy gamma-ray observatory located at 4100 m altitude on the volcano Sierra Negra in the state of Puebla in central Mexico.|Skydiving Image Gallery No, that's not a still from the latest superhero movie. This skydiver is using a wingsuit to soar through the air. See more pictures of skydiving. If you've ever dreamt of soaring through the air like a superhero, you're not alone. Dreams of flying have captivated human imagination since prehistoric times. Even with the advent of aircraft and the increasing availability of air travel, the ancient question stays with us: What if we could simply spread our arms and fly like a bird? For centuries, early flight pioneers tried to achieve this very feat by attaching artificial wings to their arms and backs. But just as the myth of Icarus ended with the Greek hero falling to his death, history books are filled with tales of enthusiastic pioneers leaping from high places, wings spread -- and plummeting back to the Earth. Resembling something between a flying squirrel and a snow angel, the wingsuit allows skydivers and BASE jumpers to leap out into the void, spread their arms and soar through the air. These things do happen, the skeptics say, but they're perfectly in keeping with conventional science. In this article, we'll take a look at both sides of the argument to find out what might be behind the ESP phenomenon. We'll also find out how false psychics can fake ESP, and we'll see how this sort of trickery factors into the ongoing parapsychology debate. Extrasensory perception is a collective term for various hypothetical mental abilities. These abilities (along with other paranormal phenomena) are also referred to as psi. All of these abilities are based on the idea that human beings can perceive things beyond the scope of known bodily senses. This concept has been around since the beginning of human civilization, under many different names, but the modern conception didn't develop until the first half of the 20th century. The term ESP itself was coined in 1934, by Duke University professor J.B. TransVOD yields comparable performances on the benchmark of ImageNet VID. TransVOD Lite. The former fuses object-level information into object query via dynamic convolution while the latter models the entire video clips as the output to speed up the inference time. We give detailed analysis of all three models in the experiment part. ImageNet VID with 90.0 % mAP. Our proposed TransVOD Lite also achieves the best speed. Accuracy trade-off with 83.7 % mAP while running at around 30 FPS on a single V100 GPU device.7 % mAP while running at around 30 FPS on a single V100 GPU device. Code and models will be available for further research. Video Object Detection, Vision Transformers, Scene Understanding, Video Understanding. It enables various applications in the real world, e.g., autonomous driving. NMS which makes the object detection a sparse set prediction problem and achieve competitive results. However, all these still-image detectors cannot be directly applied to video data, due to the appearance deterioration and changes of video frames, e.g., motion blur, part occlusion, and rare poses.

With each new model of car on the streets, more automakers are assuming that people want their phones and their cars to be interconnected. It seems like Apple already cast a spell over the auto industry, since iPhone and iPod integration are a major, almost standard, selling feature on a lot of new and recently introduced cars. Naturally, Apple's competitors aren't too happy about the situation, because if such features are commonplace, it implies that Apple's technology is the standard for smartphones and tablets, whether or not consumers and statistics agree. In other words, your new car is all set up to communicate with the Apple devices that the auto manufacturer assumes most people have, and it doesn't really matter whether or not such an assumption is correct. Google doesn't like it because Google owns Android, Apple's main competition in the mobile device market, and accepting that iPhones deserve an automatic spot in most (if not all) new cars means accepting and conceding that Android phones do not. While Snoop interacted with the Tupac avatar onstage in such a way as to give the illusion of three dimensions, it was really just a two-dimensional optical illusion -- and not only that, but one first invented in the 1860's! Dre to create a perfect simulacrum, or likeness,of the deceased rap star. Digital Domain is the leader in the field of this sort of computer-generated imagery, and has done similar posthumous reconstructions for several unnamed corporate clients. The company took physical images and video movement from footage of the rapper when he was still alive, got input from Tupac's friends and colleagues on the realism of the animation, and finally created an all-new video recording of a performance that never happened. In fact, when the ghost first appeared, he saluted the Coachella crowd by name, despite having died three years before the annual festival even started. And the second part of the illusion? What we're talking about here is electrotactile stimulation for sensory augmentation or substitution, an area of study that involves using encoded electric current to represent sensory information -- information that a person cannot receive through the traditional channel -- and applying that current to the skin, which sends the information to the brain. The brain then learns to interpret that sensory information as if it were being sent through the traditional channel for such data. In the 1960s and '70s, this process was the subject of ground-breaking research in sensory substitution at the Smith-Kettlewell Institute led by Paul Bach-y-Rita, MD, Professor of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Now it's the basis for Wicab's BrainPort technology (Dr. Bach-y-Rita is also Chief Scientist and Chairman of the Board of Wicab). Eyeglasses are a typical example of sensory augmentation. Braille is a typical example of sensory substitution -- in this case, you're using one sense, touch, to take in information normally intended for another sense, vision.|LimeWire provides a gateway for users to share software and music. It all began with Napster. As the music industry watched, millions of strangers logged on to the famous file-sharing site to swap MP3s for free. In 2003, the original Napster was shut down by a copyright infringement lawsuit, but it was too late to put the genie back in the bottle. The world had tasted the power of peer-to-peer (p2p) file-sharing, and it wanted more. Next came Gnutella, a new kind of p2p network. Gnutella differs from Napster because it doesn't have central servers that store information about which files are being shared. Gnutella isn't a Web site or a software download. It's a network protocol -- a standardized system of queries. Responses that allows individual computers to talk directly to each other. LimeWire is hugely popular. But the same controversy that surrounded Napster -- the illegal downloading of copyright material -- now plagues LimeWire, even though LimeWire cautions its users against sharing songs and videos that are under copyright protection.
Sales of the NES were phenomenal. This established Nintendo as the dominant home video game manufacturer until the late '90s, when it was eclipsed by the rival Sony PlayStation. In 1989, Nintendo introduced a new 16-bit system dubbed the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Within a couple of years, rivals had introduced 32-bit systems that eclipsed the capabilities of the SNES. So, Nintendo announced an agreement with Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI) to develop a new 64-bit video game system, code-named Project Reality. Although SGI had never designed video game hardware before, the company was regarded as one of the leaders in computer graphics technology. But the delays and shortage of games during the first year of availability gave the advantage to Sony, who had released the PlayStation over a year earlier. Nintendo 64 uses a customized chip system. Let's take a look at the components inside an N64, and what their capabilities are. To do this, we'll need to understand how current laptops are structured. Basically, the laptops with which we're all familiar consist of many individual components, each fixed within a metal frame. The entire structure opens. Closes like a book. Not only does a traditional laptop's metal frame form a rigid shell, but most of its internal components are bulky and rigid, too. The largest of these components is the screen, or display. There are several different types of modern computer displays, each built with different technologies, but most of today's displays are inflexible, bulky and surprisingly fragile. The hard disk drive, used to store memory, is another large and rigid component of a traditional laptop. The list continues and includes many other components you're probably familiar with, such as the CD/DVD drive and the battery. There are at least three main components to the Fabric PC design that will allow this to happen. First of all, the computer display will be constructed from a cutting-edge technology called e-paper, allowing the display screen to be paper-thin and bendable.|Peter Doocy reports from Washington, D.C. Western leaders on Sunday scrambled to defuse the crisis in Ukraine, as the nation's new government placed its military on "high alert" after more than 6,000 Russian forces poured into the Crimean Peninsula. The response was seen in phone calls between world leaders, statements of protest and threats of diplomatic and economic pressure against Russia. The Group of Seven nations -- including the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Britain -- said Sunday night that they're suspending participation in the upcoming economic summit scheduled to be held in Sochi, the recent site of the Winter Olympics, in protest of Russia's actions. G-7 said in a statement released by the White House. Earlier Sunday, President Obama spoke with British Prime Minister David Cameron, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the four leaders expressed their "grave concern" over "Russia's clear violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity," the White House said. First, gravity is a force that causes objects to attract one another. The simplest way to understand gravity is through Isaac Newton's law of universal gravitation. This law states that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle. The more massive an object is, the more strongly it attracts other objects. The closer objects are, the more strongly they attract each other. An enormous object, like the Earth, easily attracts objects that are close to it, like apples hanging from trees. Scientists haven't decided exactly what causes this attraction, but they believe it exists everywhere in the universe. Second, air is a fluid that behaves essentially the same way liquids do. Like liquids, air is made of microscopic particles that move in relation to one another. Air also moves like water does -- in fact, some aerodynamic tests take place underwater instead of in the air. The particles in gasses, like the ones that make up air, are simply farther apart and move faster than the particles in liquids.
